Adding Texture and Depth Using Expert Plant Solutions
Bupa is a leading global healthcare company committed to improving the health and well-being of its clients. Bupa’s Queensland office required a unique plant solution to enhance its large, contemporary office environment as part of its ongoing workplace investment. The space featured large joinery planters that occupied significant portions of the interior, adding to the modern and sophisticated aesthetic.
The Major Challenges
The brief was to transform the office into a vibrant, natural oasis while meeting specific design challenges. One of them was the large open planters, measuring 700mm in height, where plants risked getting lost in the expansive space. Bupa wanted to fill the planters, elevate the plants and break up the impersonal space. Although the Indoor Plant Solutions team was asked to design a solution to make the greenery a feature, Bupa also wanted to keep sightlines clear and the space feeling open.
Our Solution
Indoor Plant Solutions considered both the design aspects and what would work best for the plants themselves. Our goal was to balance the visual impact with what would thrive in the long term. We selected a combination of thick, dense foliage plants such as Spathiphyllums, Palms, and Australian natives, perfect for creating a tropical jungle feel. These plants were chosen for their aesthetic appeal and their ability to thrive in an indoor office environment.
To tackle the height challenge of the planters, we elevated the plants using strategic methods that maintained visual balance. Taller plants were placed towards the back of the planters to act as a screen, while smaller plants were strategically placed at the front to ensure unobstructed views across the space. The team layered a variety of plants to add depth and texture, effectively transforming the space into a lush, dynamic environment.
The Benefits
The installation was completed within the scheduled timeframe, from April 2 to April 3, 2025, and mutually agreed-upon budget. The outcome was a seamless integration of greenery into Bupa’s contemporary office design, with 467 plants installed throughout the space.
The client was extremely pleased with the transformation, noticing how their employees and visitors found the space natural and calming. The strategic plant placement exceeded expectations in creating an environment that balanced functionality with aesthetic value.
