Chatswood Chase Final Stage

Completing the Final Stage of Chatswood Chase’s Landmark Refurbishment

Background & Challenge

Chatswood Chase had just gone through a major redevelopment. New architecture and premium finishes repositioned the space as a luxury retail centre. When a space is rebuilt at that scale, the greenery placement needs to be precise and enhancing.

Following the successful installation of the Ground and Level 2, Indoor Plant Solutions recently delivered the final stage of greenery as part of the Chatswood Chase redevelopment.

Focused on the external areas and Levels 1 and 3, this stage completed the rollout of large-scale indoor greenery throughout the newly transformed retail environment.

Working alongside Australian Native Landscapes, Vicinity Centres and Multiplex Construction, our team was responsible for the preparation, delivery and installation of a significant number of feature planters and over 550 indoor plants across multiple areas within the centre.

The scope of work included waterproofing, setup and installation of a wide range of client-owned planters across diverse styles, including Waddle, Loob, Woodfire Bullet, Air Bullet, Air Furore and Handthrown Terracotta pots in varying sizes and finishes. The project also involved the supply and installation of hundreds of indoor plant specimens ranging from 125mm through to 400mm, each one carefully allocated to a specific location throughout the development.

As with the initial Ground and Level 2 install, the project required extensive planning and coordination due to the scale of the installation and the live construction environment surrounding the works. Although the installation was completed during the final stages of construction, strict site requirements and access protocols remained in place throughout the project, including mandatory PPE and controlled access across all working areas. With large volumes of stock, multiple installation zones and after-hours access requirements involved, maintaining organisation, communication and efficiency across every stage of the project was critical to ensuring a smooth delivery.

Our Solution

To maximise efficiency onsite and the installation ran smoothly, every pot and planter was fully prepared at our Silverwater facility before anything was loaded onto a truck. Each one was plugged with Byute Flash Flashing Tape, followed by three coats of Crommelin Exterior Grade Waterproofing with 24-hour curing periods between each coat. Sealed water reservoir containers were installed within each planter to support long-term plant health while reducing the risk of water damage within the commercial environment. Ballast material was also added where required to ensure pots remained stable and were not top heavy once planted.

Plant species and combinations were workshopped and approved in advance. Every pot was carefully wrapped and protected for transportation, then delivered to site using Indoor Plant Solutions’ own trucks. Black mulch top dressing was applied to all planters for a clean and consistent finish across the installation.

The installation was completed across planned after-hours shifts to align with site access requirements and project scheduling. Due to the extensive preparation completed prior to delivery, the installation process onsite progressed efficiently across all designated areas.

Clear communication between Indoor Plant Solutions, Australian Native Landscapes and the wider project teams kept everything coordinated smoothly and on schedule throughout the live construction environment.

Benefits

The completed installation contributes significantly to the overall atmosphere and presentation of Chatswood Chase’s newly redeveloped retail spaces.

The introduction of layered indoor greenery and large-scale feature planters soften the surrounding built environment, creating a more welcoming and visually engaging experience for visitors moving throughout the centre. The plant selections and planter finishes were carefully integrated into the architectural palette of the redevelopment, helping the greenery feel cohesive within the premium retail setting rather than simply added as an afterthought.

Beyond the visual outcome, the project also demonstrated the importance of detailed planning and coordination when delivering large-scale commercial greenery installations within complex environments. By addressing the preparation, coordination, logistics and scheduling challenges in advance, the team was able to successfully deliver and install both stages on time, without disruption and to a consistent high standard throughout.

The result is a professionally integrated indoor planting scheme that enhances the customer experience throughout Chatswood Chase while complementing the centre’s luxurious redevelopment. From the preparation of every planter through to the final placement onsite, the project reflects Indoor Plant Solutions’ ability to deliver complex commercial greenery solutions at scale while maintaining consistent quality, organisation and attention to detail throughout every stage of the process.
