Creating a Refined Green Space for Suntory Australia
Suntory, a globally recognised beverage company known for its premium spirits and commitment to innovation, approached Indoor Plant Solutions during the fit-out of its Australian office. Their interior design featured a refined blend of modern neutrals and artistic finishes, creating a clean, sophisticated aesthetic where every detail had a purpose.
The Challenge
Indoor Plant Solutions was tasked with ensuring the greenery felt like a seamless and natural extension of the interior – keeping it intentional, not interruptive or ornamental.
The main design challenge was creating visual depth and texture using only darker, earthier moss tones. The client strongly preferred avoiding lighter greens, which are typically used to add natural variation and dimension. This required us to rethink our standard approach while still delivering a polished, high-impact result.
It also presented a practical challenge: without lighter moss varieties in the mix, we had a reduced volume of usable material to work with despite filling multiple large joinery sections.
After one of the joinery units had been installed, the client requested a change in plant positioning, specifically with varying heights to suit the surrounding proportions better. While not a significant challenge, the team needed to think quickly and strategically to adjust the setup without impacting the overall balance of the layout.
The Solution
Rethinking Moss Integration
To work within the design limitations, we offered a small patch test to demonstrate how subtle variations in moss tone could enhance the space without compromising the darker palette. The client agreed to a minimal inclusion of lighter shades, excluding our more vibrant ‘Lemongrass’ tone, which allowed us to reintroduce dimension in a refined way.
- Darker moss tones were applied prominently to the outer joinery for maximum visual impact.
- Lighter tones were sparingly integrated into recessed sections to maintain depth and tonal harmony.
- Sprinkle moss, a spongier, more voluminous type, was used strategically to reduce material usage while preserving texture and fullness.
Adaptive Plant Styling
For the plant installations, we took a similarly intentional approach. After installing one of the joineries, the client requested more height variation between pots. Using discreet risers, buckets and internal props, we elevated selected pots to enhance spatial alignment without disrupting the structural balance. This subtle shift helped elevate the final look.

The final installation aligned seamlessly with Suntory’s design intent. Despite last-minute adjustments to the moss palette and layout, the project was delivered on schedule, without budget impact and exceeded customers expectations.

The client was so impressed with the original installation that they re-engaged our team to enhance a previously blank wall. We proposed a custom moss wall installation to amplify the vertical design’s impact, and they quickly agreed.
This once-empty space has now become a striking feature of the workplace, complete with a branded wall sign – true to Suntory’s brand message: “Inspiring the brilliance of life.”
